Week 2 Reflection

I thought the first portion of this class was super interesting as previously I was a little unclear about FIPPA. The purpose and explanation were super clear and I noted that you should always get written consent specifically and that providing an alternative for parents or students that opt out if an absolute must. I also appreciated how in depth the slide went about what exactly to request when getting consent for a variety of electronic reasons. I think that FIPPA will affect my practice simply by existing as I will have to ensure all of the laws are followed for everyone’s safety.

I do not think this will affect my current social media practices, however, as I would not have posted anything with a student regardless. My social media accounts are all personal and I have zero intention of changing this. For me personally, I do not like teacher accounts as I feel a lot of them toe the line of inappropriate with their content. Whether it is their students’ voices or a skit about an interaction, it just isn’t my thing. This obviously is not to say that no teacher can have a professional(-ish) account or that all teacher accounts are bad and inappropriate. I do not agree with either of those statements. For me though, I would not have one. Due to this, there is no need to change my personal social media practices.
