Week 8 Reflection

Week 8 Reflection

This week’s material was very interesting. One particular point in the first video on BCEd Access was intersectionality. Intersectionality is so important to consider in everything educators do. As the video stated, even if you are accepted in the disability community, it does not feel like it unless you are accepted in other areas like sexuality. Last year, I took a CYC course and it covered intersectionality a lot. It informed of how important it is when making opinions or decisions. Knowing how your identities fit in to the world and your biases is the base of it. If you know this, you can ensure you avoid letting them make decisions and be conscious of how they affect others.

For the second video, I really appreciated how many resources we got! My favourite was the speech-to-text option as many students struggle with typing or writing. It is also a tool that is applicable for life as adults also struggle with these skills sometimes. The third video gave a better understanding as it was first hand experience. It was very informative and something to carry forward in your worldviews.

Overall, I really liked the material for this week. I felt it had a lot of things to consider and hold on to as we move through our education and as teachers. My favourite was the BCEd Access one as I felt it was a great introduction. Amazing resources!
