Halloumi Cheese Burgers

So this is a meal I made recently, the photo was the only one I took and that was just because I was confused. The final result looked nothing like I was expecting so I did not take a picture ahah. This was my very first go at a vegetarian meal since starting my inquiry. It was supposed to be halloumi cheese done in a burger style with caramelized onions and paprika fries. To be honest, I haven’t had a recipe feel like it has gone this wrong before.

I chose this recipe off of HelloFresh as there are a ton of vegetarian options and it seemed like a good starting place. My husband and I get it on occasion anyways because it is easy and there is motivation to cook. The first issue I ran into was trying to caramelize the onions. For some reason these onions would not turn golden brown and stayed white pretty much the whole time. The only exception was when I added the balsamic vinegar, but I still knew they were not actually cooked. The other issue was the cheese itself. It refuse to bake properly and so I needed to leave it in for a while, this only led to it burning somehow. As you can see in the photo, it exuded a liquid which I did not manage to identify. There was no oil involved so I am not sure.

In the end, I just served it on a plate in three parts instead of as a burger. There was the onions, the fries, and the cheese. I thought it looked so bad I did not actually eat it, so this next part is all from my husband. He said the fries were very tasty along with the mayo they had. He did not try the onions as you could visibly see they were not properly cooked and the breadcrumb-covered cheese tasted like a grilled cheese sandwich. Overall 2/3 isn’t bad, but the process to get there was far too hectic for me, so I will not be making this recipe again.
